What is hoop

A hula hoop is a round prop that is twirled around the waist, limbs or neck with the help of the body. At the beginning the hoops were made of wood, more especially bamboo and nowadays there are made of plastic. Hoops come in different sizes, depend of the body size of the person who uses it and also depends of the style of hooping.

Origins

There are some evidence that hoops have been used by children and adults since at least 500 BCE.

Author Charles Panati records a “craze” with the usage of wooden and metal hoops in 14th-century England. He reports that some doctors treated patients suffering from pain, dislocated backs, and even heart failure due to hooping.
